Fuel pump and regulator help

Postby Ray Roberts #115 » Fri Nov 28, 2014 11:45 pm

So I don't want to re invent the wheel but what is the best setup. Motor is a Z1 Kawi, I have a fuel regulator so should I use a fuel pump that puts out about 3-4psi then dump the excess back to tank before the regulator because I only need about 1-2 psi, should I run the overflow tubes from the carbs back to tank just in case I flood the carbs. Will the fuel pump keep running or will it shut of when it reaches pressure, guys in the UK us the old style SU pump like off a Morris Minor 1000.

I'm using a Honda CBR 600 pump with a Nitros Oxide low pressure regulator, no return needed..runs at
1.75-2 .0 psi. Some rigs are running pulse snowmobile pumps...

I like the idea of the pulse snow pig style. It would seem less complex and perhaps lighter.

I was talking to my friend last night about his 500 Jawa land speed bike and he runs a pump @5PSI no regulator and just a T in the line to send the excess back to tank, he had used a reg, before but found it leaned out a bit in the top end..

I use a mikuni pulse pump. Had to change the float jets
for smaller ones or the carbs overflow as they are set up for
gravity feed.

Mikuni has a pulse pump that also has a return pump built in. We called it a pump around system. Not sure if they do too.

Ours was setup to pump into the carb, then we had an overflow line on the opposite side of the carb that sent fuel back to the tank.
I'm sure another setup can be done or if you have an overflow line somewhere on the carbs themselves, that can just be used.
