The points system would not eliminate the possibility of a tie.
Even in this same scenario.
Having an even number of rounds will mean it’s always possible.
Team A 2 wins 2 second places
Team B 2 wins 2 second places
Provided they finish on the same number of laps at each round means a tie.
In that instance- should it occur. I agre we go back and look at what the margin of victory was at each round and see who has the largest margin.
However.
While we recognize 1st 2nd 3rd etc at each round. As long as those teams finish on the same lap. They essentially score the exact same points.
Because the current point system is strictly laps x track length.
And this is what would technically allow a team to “steal” a championship.
Team A wins 3, second in 1 but due to a long pit stop, finish a lap down in that round they got second in.
Team B finishes 2nd twice and 3rd once but always on the same lead lap. They win 1 race where team A finishes second but a lap down.
With nothing but mileage as a metric - Team B wins championship.
That’s a stolen championship to me. They got beat repeatedly but 1 win gives them the championship.
I do not like this scenario- it was very nearly the scenario we had last season.
The added points matrix ensures this is not possible.
There is always the opportunity to get those points back. It just means you have to beat that team that beat you.
I see nothing unfair in this scenario.
