Race 7, P4F2 Heat race, structural change announcement

Postby Ashton Bond » Mon Jul 13, 2015 10:28 pm

In response to the specific safety concerns regarding our gridding and heat racing procedures arising from some of the entrants in the P4 classes this week, The format of the P4F2, 2015 Summer Classic Race number 7 on the schedule will be changed from a heat race to a timed qualifying session.

As the concerns were centralized around the issues created from a two wave heat race, this solution, as discussed, offers all the benefit's of the reduced safety risk, without disturbing anyone else's race schedule. As this is our only race on the schedule that has gone past the two wave cut-off for the number of entrants, and after much discussion both with the individuals with concerns, and with our race control and safety team, we've decided to seize this opportunity to do a trial timed qualifying session. The details are as follow:

- All P4F2 entrants will be pre-assembled on the hot grid, same as we are now.
- Entrants will be released onto the live track in staggered groups of 4-6 bikes approx 5 seconds apart.
- the session will run for 15 minutes.
- entrants may exit the session at any time without penalty, but re-entry will NOT be allowed.
- final grids for Sunday will be determined in order of the fastest lap times.
- any DNS will be gridded at the rear of the grid on Sunday
- 2 points for the heat race win will go to the entrant with the quickest lap time.

All entrants for P4F2 will receive this notice in an email, I will post this decision on our facebook group as well, and will make one final notification at the riders meeting. Thank you to all that discussed this matter, and here's hoping this will make for an amicable solution to your concerns.

This will provide a "dry run" for August, and tweaks can be tweaked. Cool.

When in doubt, give it gas. It may not help the situation, but it will end the suspense!

I'm considering the results of this test for future racing decisions. One if which is in August. Kindof a dry run of sorts...

Ashton, I have to admit I am lost in this decision.

Replacing a heat race with a timing session for gridding purposes at Grand Bend may be accepted as a "special case" I don't see expanding this format meeting the interests of the racers.

Your decision was easier than telling some of the P4F2 entrants the class is full. The downside of a successful club, popular classes will exceed capacity.

Removing bikes that bump into the class would likely clear any excess, lap time, registration date, standing points, lots of ways to create a cut off.

One way out of the problem of too little space is to book larger tracks.

What is the future decision regarding?
