Sad news: Steve Bond

Postby Ian » Tue Nov 05, 2019 10:21 pm

We lost our friend Bondo yesterday. Steve has had a hard year but after eventually being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma he was doing well in treatment. Recently, though, he was hit with pneumonia while undergoing chemotherapy.

"Only the good die young ..."

He was a great friend of mine for more than 30 years and an active member and racer of VRRA for many years as well. I'm really going to miss him.
History is just one damn thing after another.

Fawk. I really don't know what else to say, that's printable.
Rest in peace, Steve.

Condolences to his family and his many friends. He gave me great advice when I started working on the Baffled Muffler. Respect for his skills on and off the track.

Sad news indeed. My memories go back to the very early seventies when Steve was one of the Mickey Mouse Race team. From inauspicious beginnings Steve became quite accomplished on his production 3 cylinder Kawasaki's. More irreverent moments would come late at night when trucking back from Quebec races, the MMR van would fly by, slow in front of our more sedate pace and a full moon would appear in their back window.RIP Ken

I only met Steve twice. The first time was one of my most memorable races, where we traded places 4 and 5 times a lap, for all 7 laps at Mosport:

Hey Brian - I remember our dice at Mosport quite well. The P3 race went well and I even managed to win the middleweight production heat on the SR500. The final didn't go so well....."

He later donated parts to my SR500 build.

He lives on in my memories regularly, every time I recall that race...
