What class: 1969 Yamaha YR-3

Postby BrianL » Sun Aug 09, 2020 6:48 am

The 1967 YR-1 and the 1969 YR-3 are so similar, I was wondering where the 1969 would race. By year and cc (two stroke) it would seem to fall under Mid-Prod...(Maximum model year 1976, up to 500cc piston port twin cylinder 2 stroke). Was really wondering if it could be raced in P1-350GP as there were no significant changes to the model...? (The only example listed is the TD1-C)

years ago when Stan was head of Tech , he fought to keep the YR2 and YR3 OUT of P1 , because it had more modern cylinders , with boost ports. The 1967 YR1 is a 3 port , and really the only model that should be technically allowed into P1 . If we allow the R2 and R3 in , we might as well let a real TR2 350 race too , externally it's the same motor, if you really want to race it , just find yourself a set of early YR1 cylinders

Thanks for the info. I never want to push to have bikes that don't belong in a class. I'm fine with it in Mid-Prod. I just needed to know where it races before moving forward...Thanks again.
