I can't really remember but I think there was some talk at the AGM about a P2 125 class. There has been no discussion on it since then.

Did this ever get passed and is there a copy of the rules somewhere? If someone could post them or PM them to me that would be great.

I did have some questions though...

Can you race a Yamaha TA125 in this class? It is a genuine TA. It's not a AS3 with the GYT kit.

According to the VRRA rule book P2 has a "Maximum model year 1972, except as listed in the exceptions". At the end of the P2 Section it lists "The following examples and exceptions are permitted in Period 2 - Yamaha TA 125, TD2, TD2B, TR2, TR2B, TD3, TR3 (air-cooled models only)", so assume its OK, No?

These bikes came with 3 gearbox options, 5, 6 and 7 speed. This particular bike has a 7 speed transmission. Since they came from Yamaha and are period correct I assume there is no issue? I have a binder with the original Bill of Sale and options that list it.

It has some aftermarket parts currently on...

It has post period Keihin's round slides which according to the rules are allowed. I guess this is OK?

It has a Barton dry clutch kit with straight cut primaries which is period correct although it has the original side cover and clutch in a box so it can be swapped back if needed.

It has a set of Brian Turfrey pipes. The Yamaha originals where just straight through stingers while these have alloy cans and are a heck of a lot quieter. Does it have to run open stingers? All it says in the rule book is no Titanium or Carbon Fibre so are alloy cans allowed?. I could just have Bryon Cox weld a new set of stingers on. Brian said it would not make a hell of a lot of difference as long as the overall length is the same.

The proposal accepted by the members at the AGM was for a trial of the AHRMA F125 class:

10.3.4 FORMULA 125
Air-cooled, twin-shock, steel-framed Grand Prix motorcycles up to 125cc,
plus certain GP-kitted street and enduro machines. Major components (and
modifications) must be consistent with those used in the 1960s and ‘70s.
The following motorcycles are eligible for this class; if not included on this
list, approval must be obtained from the Vintage Roadrace Rules & Eligibility
Committee:
• Bridgestone 200cc twin
• Bultaco, up to 200cc
• Can-Am 125, 175
• Honda MT125, MT125R, 200cc four-stroke twin
• Husqvarna 175, 1975-’82
• Kawasaki F7
• Maico RS125
• Montesa, up to 175cc
• Ossa, up to 175cc
• Suzuki GT185, TS125/185
• Yamaha TA125, AT1/2/3, DT125, RD125
• Yamaha YCS1, CS3/5, CT1/2/3, DT175, RD200
Maximum carburetor or restrictor plate size for 175cc singles is 34mm; maximum
carburetor or restrictor plate size for 180-200cc two-stroke twins is 22mm.

OK. So this is a California bike and originally competed in AHRMA so if the VRRA just adopted the AHRMA class rules then its 100% compliant as is.

Sorry for the dumb questions.

Do you have a sense of how many people are interested in this class. I just don't want to be in a class of one :(

If you're going to run a TA125, get Byron to make you a shorter fuel tank... it helps. He made one last year for a guy in Texas
I have some spares (rings-wrist pins-gaskets...) yours if you want them... I sold my TA to a guy in Texas.

Quick Question for a friend.

What does "GP-kitted street and enduro machines" mean?

Is that referring to the motor, so if someone has a AS3 they need the GYT kit, or does it mean that you need to have clipons, rearsets, and a fairing. etc.

As an example, if someone brought a 175 CanAm what would they need to do to make it eligible for this class. Her other question is are replica frames allowed. So if she took that motor and shoved it into a period Seeley Replica is that OK?

GP kitted means that it has a fairing, rear sets and clip ons and looks like a 125GP of the 60's or 70's.

We would accept a steel replica of a frame that was used for small class racing in the period. If in doubt provide us with information on the proposed frame.

Thanks Michael. That clarifies things.

This CanAm has actually raced at the VRRA before. It just needs a crank refresh but all the parts are still available.
