2023 Calabogie 3 Hr Endurance

Discussion regarding all things endurance racing!

2023 Calabogie 3 Hr Endurance

Postby Davelaporte221 » Mon Oct 03, 2022 2:12 pm

Hi all,

I would be interested in getting feedback on the following proposal.

I am proposing that the Calabogie round in 2023 feature a 3 Hr. Endurance race.

Timing would be 3 pm to 6 pm.

Additional cost would be approx $50 per team based on a minimum 20 team field.

This would make the Bogie round special and encourage additional participation.

Please add your comments below for discussion.

Interesting idea Dave.

Would the rules be amended to allow two rider teams or would we stick with the "one hour plus two laps" maximum?

Thanks,
Colin

Hey Colin

I’m not sure if we can change the rule of 1 hr plus 2 laps but I will confirm.

For me, I would expand my team so more of my friends get to ride my bike.

As long as it doesn’t cut further into practice time, or increase practice cost
for the rest of us, I think it’s a great idea.
(We used to have a full days practice)

This would have no effect on the rest of the day as the track would be rented for an additional hour to 6 pm and that cost would be recovered by the increased race fee.

Amend the rule to read: "No rider stint may exceed 1 hour plus 2 laps with minimum 1/2 hour between stints."

Calabogie Friday practice with the VRRA remains the absolute best deal for getting laps in at bogie.
It's waaaaaaay underpriced compared to what it should be for essentially 2/3s of a track day. Other orgs are 250 for a day and up!

But as Dave said- extra hour at the end of the day so practice is not impacted.

Also- I don't see how we can change the rule on riders - so you would need a third rider.

Surely, if we made the rules, we could change them???
Or at least have a one event amendment?

That’s a 3 stop race with 2 riders or a 2 stop race with 3 riders.

I know which way I would go.

From the rule book: 2d Each rider may compete for no more than one hour plus 2 laps in total for a 2 hour race. Red flag time does not count towards the one hour plus 2 lap limit.

It could be argued that this rule does not apply as the race is now 3 hours and not the 2 specified.

I don’t care either way as we are a three rider team already.

If this is good for one round, why not others? Should be doable at Shanny, I could see CTMP being difficult.

Perhaps the season ender could be made into something special like SOAR does? Not necessarily 6 hrs, maybe 4?

See you at the AGM!

Hi all,

Discussion of the rules aside, I want to know if all prospective endurance racers like the idea.

If you would normally run the 2 hour event, would you run the 3?

Would any new teams join?

Would we lose any teams?

Thanks,

THE DOOR.

I'm not in favour of 3hours. Running past 5:00pm means a lot of volunteers have to work late plus added costs for medical staff. I don't see 3 hours pulling in more teams, in fact there may be a drop if all teams require 3 riders. How many will drop Friday practice if they were doing the endurance race?
