MidProd 500 Single

Postby BrianL » Sat Oct 20, 2012 12:17 pm

Not much to report yet but thought I'd show everybody my jumping off point... A really ugly start to what will be the place I've wanted to be in the VRRA ever since meeting Link Metcalf. I've done the 4 cylinder and two cylinder thing, but a single is the way to go for me. I had an incredible race with Steve Bond back in 09' at Mosport while he showed me what racing was on his SR500 and between Link's advice and Bondo's performance, I was hooked! So here goes...

That is one ugly mother of a bike Brian! LOL!

Can't wait to see the progress you make with it.

Hey Brian - I remember our dice at Mosport quite well. The P3 race went well and I even managed to win the middleweight production heat on the SR500. The final didn't go so well.....

I've got a couple of single walled header pipes for the SR if you're interested. You can't really make those things very fast but every little bit helps and the header is one easy thing to do.

E-mail me and we'll work it out. All you have to do is arrange pickup or shipping. They're not doing anyone any good sitting in my garage.

I think I even have a header that tucks up high in case you want to run a high pipe.

Yes and yes! We're planning on every round! Luc will still race his GS400 in P3L and I'll be in MidProd with the SR500...Cheers.

Tore into the SR in a big way...Not pretty!!!! Seized piston or crank or both !!!!! Jumble of parts. Frame looks good, rims fine, forks OK. Time to get to work...

Try "Metal Rescue" in the cylinder.

Or possibly try Fluid Film,it is a rust penetrant which is also a creeping fliud..have used it before with great results..

Sounds great ! I'll try both before drilling the crap out of the piston... Had all the trouble in the world getting the old rear Pirrelli Phantom off the rim. Should have just cut it off...It was like a petrified ring of hell...Off now and ready to clean her up. Both axles came out cleanly and no issues with front wheel. Time to order bearings for wheels and neck...I'll have a look at the swing arm this week.

No longer have a seized piston...Release All, a sledge hammer and a 2x2...We have a clear barrel and a free moving crank... :D :D :D

Now for the real work...This is so much fun. The crank move really nicely. With the piston free, I think I'll work on the frame for a while..
