YDS6 Race project

Postby Curtis » Sat Nov 12, 2011 10:14 pm

Just picked this jem up from autofobe today.

Image

An original TD-1 fairing from the 60's two boxes of goodies, including a few top ends, another crank with good rods, a bunch of new carb parts and some seals, new shift shaft and kick shaft. (although the kick shaft will be eliminated)

So as of today I have
-Stripped the bike down to almost nothing
-removed wiring harness and start pulling the 40 year old tape off to make my own
-set the fairing on for a dry mock up fit

Tomorrow morning the motor is coming out, and on the bench to start pulling it down

More updates and progress soon... Main goal is to start racing with a reliable bike that handles fairly decent and has some updated suspension.

Thank you, yes you will see me there.

Just ordered a pair of rear sets and made my cardboard template of rear frame hoop to help tie the rear together.

Just a quick update, the bike is pulled completely apart, i went threw the motor, crank rods and tranny all look in good shape. I have the motor fully back tpgether and cleaned up on the bench, the roller is going on a diet this evening and getting a clean up with some paint thrown at it.

Still waiting on my rear sets to show up as well as get some cones for the expansion chambers rolled and welded up.

Frame started going on a diet this weekend, the back tabs were removed, i fashioned the rear frame hoop, just waiting to weld it on later this week.

Few other small tabs removed, center stand, side stand will be removed when the new race stand shows up.

Mullholland shocks were installed,

Just wondering what the "tube" is coming out of the front axle? Is it a skunkworks hydraulic front wheel drive, or perhaps some sort of early KERS device?

When in doubt, give it gas. It may not help the situation, but it will end the suspense!

No progress pictures, but progress has been made !

motor completely rebuilt and cleaned up, new crank seals pistons, rings, shaved and decked heads, little bit of polishing, nothing serious.

Frame has been fully de-tabbed now that my race stand is here, side stand, center stand and everything deemed unnecessary removed.

Rear hoop has been made, but not welded to frame yet, waiting for a rainy day to take the bike to the shop and spend a few hours welding, cleaning and painting frame.

Started polishing rims, fork lowers, bits and pieces (meaning i am waiting on parts to arrive, ha ha)
