CB550 project

Postby Martin426 » Sat Mar 12, 2011 6:55 pm

My eldest son Simon will be attending race school and begin racing with the club this season.. His ride will be the CB550K purchased from Mr. Pigeon last summer... so we are busy making mods/upgrades to the bike. I guess you could say we are CR'ing it up a bit...

A second project on the go this off season is an RCB1000 endurance replica. Been planning this one for awhile and with the help of Denis and Byran at CMR Racing it won't take me 15 years to get right!

Thanks. It's a CMR Rickman CR "slimline" 750 tank. CMR did a really nice job flattening/reworking the top tube, running and tying in smaller parallel tubes from the steering head all the way down. Really nice clean setup, and added rigidity.

Great modification to the 550!

The RCB is a fantastic project, I assume you are going to use the 900F as the base for the project. In 1980 Honda based their endurance racer on the 900F and renamed it the RSC1000 from RCB. The CB900F was based on Honda's earlier endurance racing versions of the RCB.

The link below gives a good background on Honda Endurance Racing efforts in europe.

Appreciate your comments guys, thank you. Will definitely be a busy 6 weeks before track day testing :)

Jim... Your assumption is correct. The 900 is supplying the engine, carbs, front-end, calipers, wiring harness, oil cooler and rear wheel to the project. The 18" front wheel is off an '82 GL1100 with 750F rotors. I'm going for the "in between" years look i.e. RCB '77-'79 with RCB style bodywork on an RS style frame. Such a mixed bag of stuff going on during the time. Summed up much better in this pic.

Glad to see your boy getting involved. It must be a whole whack of fun getting those bikes ready. I'll be back better than ever in 2012...But I'll swing by on Saturdays and Sundays during this season when my shifts permit. I'm using 2011 to recruit new members by organizing rides to the different events and showing theme around without the stress of racing. Cheers Scott and remember buddy, you owe me nothing but our friendship....See you at the races...
