How do I learn to restore a bike like this, or at least to something a little prettier than what I have? Is there a book you can recommend? Restoration for dummies?

It really all depends upon what you're trying to accomplish. To be honest, I've found over the years that some of the best information can come from forums like this one, especially a forum that is specific to the bike that you're working on. In my case, for example the Kawasaki triples website. Lots of really good advice there. Over the years I have learned to do my own paint, bodywork, welding, fabrication, wiring and all my own wrenching. I have built a few bikes from scratch including this prostreet v twin that I still own.




My CBX only involved paint, detailing, and bolting on the exhaust. The Kawasaki was more of a build. I started with a stock Kawasaki H2, cut it up, and made it into an H2R replica. Yikes. I have lots of those offers. Who knows, I may sell the Kawasaki some day. It's not exactly an everyday rider.

Updated pictures of my CBX. Now has Hayabusa swingarm, monoshock, wheels, brakes, and front end. Nissin radial master cylinder. Subframe, seat and tail section from a 2007 CBR600RR. I fabricated the rear frame, rearsets, top engine mount, top yoke, fiberglass undertail, and fiberglass filler section between the gas tank and seat. Painted it with silver pearl with a graphite stripe. Dunlop slicks. K & N pods with stage III jets, Dyna ignition and coils, Mocal oil cooler with braided oil lines and custom mount, PIAA lights, Protaper risers and Renthal fatbars. Just waiting for a carbon fiber front fender and I still need to install my KOSO speedo/tach. Rides and handles great.
