running a starter motor on the xs engine

Hi All
Brain picking again....having the right chair and that funky 6 ft long starter shaft Im thinking going with a starter motor is a good idea, just seeing if theres any tricks to know before I attack the project

my .02, as I'm only running a starter (no kick access).

My experience was you need either a big battery (with total loss), or run an alternator, and small light weight battery. I went with the later (PM alternator & PC310). Also negated any issues with running a Boyer ignition (eg. low voltage), and electronic tach (extra draw). Does add to the wiring complexity though.

several of the racers use a separate mobile battery or booster pack with cables to turn the start motor from exposed terminals, thus avoiding voltage drop needed for ign. Rollers are another option. Paul.
