Sidecar Champions Since 1923 - Book

Postby Stephen Szikora » Tue Mar 13, 2012 2:06 pm

I just received a new book called Sidecar Champions Since 1923 by Mick Walker. It is 333 pages, coffee table quality hard cover, published in 2011. Amazing stories and plenty of b+w pictures. I highly recommend it and it has received great reviews.

I purchased it through Amazon.ca and it arrived at my door in only 4 days from the UK for about $30 all in. I was amazed at the speed and the minimal cost of shipping for such a heavy book. There are a number of vendors selling it on that site and a couple on eBay. I used the 4th one down the list at Amazon (I looked at price but also high feedback ratings), "The Book Depository". They shipped it wrapped in a nice cardboard book container.

There aren't a lot of books on sidecar racing so this is a must have.

Got mine last fall, definitely an excellent book. The Colin Seeley & George O'Dell books are also quite good.

There is a lot in the book about Helmuth Fath and his URS sidecar team - and from what I read, rightly so. On page 208, there is mention of the final sale of the team bikes in 1992. Well, one surfaced at an auction in 2010 and sold for $160,000!

I second Stephen's recommendation of The Book Depository. I have bought a few books from them, including one on the Moto Rumi that I was told was long out of print. Excellent service and pricing.

That sidecar book looks interesting, even as a solo rider but someone interested in the history of all types of motor/motorcycle racing, although we did have a 1960 BSA Golden Flash with a Swallow Jet 80 chair as our street transport before leaving the UK. Thanks for the heads up, Stephen.
