clutch advice ???

clutch advice ???

burnt the clutch out at shannonville (XS650)......any advice....should I upgrade? EBC, Barnett, ???
I had stock plates with EBC springs

stock clutch with stock parts will haul a sidecar outfit with no problem

My clutch went away on Sunday around 1/2 race. Needs a bunch of new steels, no more good used ones left. :(

Trust me stock are the best, Barnett or ebc are down grades,

Hi Brian, no faith in EBC. I used std plates for 14 years with no problem; you do need good (not warped steels), if friction are worn enough throw another plate in to make up the difference. Use std springs with 1/16-1/8" spacers make sure the o.d. does not bind on the pressure plate. I may have some usable plate still here.
forgot to add the most common reason for slip in the first place seems to be lack of push rod end clearance. For those not familiar: slacken cable adjuster, slacken push rod adjuster and turn in until it just touches the push rod, back off a 1/2 turn and hold while tightening the lock nut. adjust cable at the handlebar. As the plates wear the clearance is reduced, so check every race or two.

Hi Paul, seems I've run out of good steels. That said, they've all been through many years of racing, so not concerned. I will try preloading the springs though as you suggest.

Thanks everyone for the advice, think im going to stick with standard plates n springs and make sure my set up is bang on, cheers see yall at Mosport
