Re: sidecar tyres

ball park 24-26 front 26-28 rear (wet track let 2 lbs out) some think since there is no acceleration load on the front that the stress in the tyre is mostly during braking and therefor reversed. the tread is made to shed water and may not work as well in reverse. having run both ways can't say I not...

prospective sidecar builders

Over the years I have spent time trying to get commercial frame builders "Frame Crafters" and our own Dennis Curtis for two, to try their hand at sidecars, so far with no luck. So the few front exit built in the last 10 years this side of the border have been mostly from my bench, with the...

who's coming out in 2011

maybe we can get off the nit picking rule game and onto something more interesting: who intends to be on the track for the Quinte and other VRRA events. Ian, Huge and Jake, Patrick and Michel, Brian and Rob, Jan and Malcolm, Frans, Ralf and Amy, Len or and Dave, whatcha doing to get ready? any new t...

Re: all is quiet

Hi Gord, P3 does exist in VRRA and I assume would be allowed to run with SRA? should they turn up. However people writing the rules cannot make racers built/buy bikes, get them to the track. In the years since VRRA's P3 rules were written by a member/s? of the SRA, only one P3 had been out up until ...

Re: all is quiet

It does seem obvious if not spelled out, that punching the jug and stroking the crank would in most cases grossly exceed the limit "intended" in the rules. If the intent of the racer/builder is to exceed the intent of the rules, they will do so regardless, and who the hell will know in any...

Re: all is quiet

regarding the tech specs for over bore, as Stephen Hawkins would say "you lost me there", I leave it to the bean counters. Mid Ohio is a great track and handy but, the club that runs the show now is not one of our current three vintage clubs?. It would seem to me strange to host an inter c...

Re: all is quiet

My understanding of the term is some thing like "Throttle squirting kids" (the younger set, as we were many moons ago). the 50cc class is just a tad low on HP for a sidecar class, But on a trip to Cuba I had an idea that all those CZ/Jawa 250-350cc sidecars hauling bananas etc would make a...

Re: all is quiet

the public should not assume that the term plastic/crotch rockets ridden by squids is necessary a derogatory phrase, any more than Limey (Count me in, or as Marie calls me $10 Canadian), is derogatory. A favorite scene in a "Porridge" episode has a black guy placed in the cell with Fletche...

Re: H1 Triple rig f/s

Hi Gord, yes the 500cc Suzuki Titan is in this class; Sam Stoney did very well on one. Bob did not mention there is also a H1 owned by Karl Smolenski which I ran against in the 60,s at Orange county Cal. Being a genuine period racer.......? If it ever gets refurbished. The P2 class is often referred...

Re: Winter Sidecars , anyone?

Never knew the MaCaw's were old hands. you learn something when least expecting it. I would think a 4 cylinder motor would be too smooth for good traction, wouldn't a twin or even single get a better bite? I know a group up around Combermere used to run on the ice Burt Gallagher had a BSA single whi...

Re: Winter Sidecars , anyone?

A group of sidecar people from the USCRA (mostly New Hampshire) had a go at ice racing a few years ago, no idea if they still play in the winter. Seems like a lot of work for the time on the ice, but then we don't get a lot more track time in the summer. I have an aversion to freezing my arse off th...

Re: Sidecar promo

For a number of years the VRRA have had US rigs in its advertising Willy Kenny, Jim and Christie, Doug Donalan. While I appreciate American rigs coming to our events, It would be nice if our own posters promoting our events had a Canadian rig most of the time. If it is a group shot with both, that's...

Re: all is quiet

I cannot help note the tone of "if it does not turn a profit it should not exist", this is currently the situation with school libraries, parks, toll roads etc why do I pay almost double at an AHRMA event than at a VRRA meet without complaining, plus there are often camping fees. I accept ...
