Re: Sidecar Champions Since 1923 - Book

There is a lot in the book about Helmuth Fath and his URS sidecar team - and from what I read, rightly so. On page 208, there is mention of the final sale of the team bikes in 1992. Well, one surfaced at an auction in 2010 and sold for $160,000! http://www.bikeexif.com/motorcycle-sidecar-racing

Sidecar Champions Since 1923 - Book

I just received a new book called Sidecar Champions Since 1923 by Mick Walker. It is 333 pages, coffee table quality hard cover, published in 2011. Amazing stories and plenty of b+w pictures. I highly recommend it and it has received great reviews. I purchased it through Amazon.ca and it arrived at ...

Re: 2-strokes

Found what I was looking for ... this one is a TR500 but the pipe arrangement would be the same for a T500. http://www.flickr.com/photos/teamheronsuzuki/1515860749/in/set-72157602317108922/ Alternatively, the following shows 2 of the 3 pipes for a GT750. A cleaner arrangement but only possible if th...

Re: Chair tires

Paul, I don't think that is a fair comment. The people most likely to read the rules are those looking to join the fun. If people are going to proceed with building rigs, it is reasonable to want to know how they should be built. To that end, getting a clarification is important before making the in...

Re: Chair tires

As one of my favourite professors used to say, "reasonable minds can differ ... just not in this case." Brian, read the rule which I will quote below verbatim: "10f. TIRES: maximum 125mm/5.00 inch section width on front, rear, and sidecar." SECTION WIDTH not tread width - these a...

Re: Chair tires

I just found this interesting option for a chair wheel. http://www.cokertire.com/480-10-bf-goodrich-blackwall.html It's section width properly fits within the 125mm limit in the rules as written. I wonder if it is any better than a trailer tire but I do note that it is for classic Mini's so it shoul...

Re: 2-strokes

Both the VRRA and USCRA rules restrict the modifications to the T500. I suspect this rule was there from the beginning to keep the 650's competitive. Yet, as I understand it, over time big bore kits have been allowed so that the 4-strokes are punched out to 750cc (even, I was surprised in my most re...

Re: Chair tires

Let's be clear ... I'm not advocating for wider tires. Just noting a disconnect in the VRRA/USCRA rules. I got to this point because once again, I dusted off the plans set I got from you, Paul, and started looking around the garage at the bits I've accumulated. I knew the P2 rules specified min. 15&...

Re: Chair tires

Consider the following: If the rule was tread width and not section width, it would be possible to use vintage racing treaded Formula Vee front tires, for example the Dunlop CR82. Their nominal size is 120/590-15. 15 rims are already allowed in P2. The challenge then is an appropriate wheel. It is p...

Re: Chair tires

Again, not complaining, just clarifying. It sound like a rule change is in order. Of course, the obvious solution is to use "big wheels" and put the Dunlop R2 on the chair as well. Maybe a distinction ought to be made between P1 and P2 in this regard. I just checked the USCRA rules and not...

Re: Chair tires

How is this tire legal when the rules specify maximum 125mm section width for P2? I note that the term "section width" can be confusing because a 145/80-10 tire such as the Falken has a 145mm section width (5.80" when the rule states 5.00".) Meanwhile, a Dunlop R2 sidecar tire at...

Re: 2-strokes

Thanks, but TZ750's are exactly vintage by our rules. Still, it looks like mounting them on the opposite side from the chair and stacked is one way to go. I did find a video of a T500 rig but it appeared to be running stock pipes which were narrow enough to run very low on each side. Expansion chamb...

2-strokes

If anyone has any pictures of creative ways to route 2-stroke expansion chambers on a classic rig, please post them or provide a link. I'm curious to know how the smokers hide their pipes. A little 2-stroke teaser but no view of the pipes: http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/suzi/sidecar.htm
